Est. 1911 · Prince Arthur & Oxenden, Montreal
The Rigi — the 1911 Swiss Chalet that has watched over Prince Arthur Street for over a century — has been thoughtfully reborn into 74 contemporary homes, from cozy studios to spacious two-bedrooms.
Our Heritage
Built in 1911 on the north-east corner of Prince Arthur Street West & Oxenden Avenue, The Rigi was one of the most refined residences of its era — an elegant adaptation of the Swiss Chalet character, rising four storeys above the leafy edge of the McGill Ghetto.
Its name honours Mount Rigi, the celebrated Swiss peak above Lake Lucerne known as the "Queen of the Mountains" — an homage befitting a building designed in the chalet spirit of the Alps, right in the heart of Montreal.
Its construction was modern for its day: fireproof reinforced concrete and terra cotta, with solid, soundproof floors and light and air open on all four sides. The original suites were celebrated for their generous closets, gracious halls, and handsome vestibule and waiting room — comfort first, over a century ago.
Today, that character has been carefully converted into 74 modern residences — studios, one- and two-bedroom homes that pair a landmark's soul with contemporary living. The history stays; the comfort is new.
